CONWAY — State Rep. David Paige (D-Conway), who is in his first term, recently sat down with the Sun to talk about how legislators can help with things like taxes and affordable housing.
Paige, and state Reps. Tom Buco (D-Conway) and Steve Woodcock (D-Conway) have a bill that would address both by providing a homestead exemption.
If passed, the bill, HB 1034, would allow towns to offer residents a property tax exemption on the value of their primary dwelling. Paige explained how the exemption would work.
“It’s local option legislation; the town would have to adopt it,” said Paige. “What it would do is it would exempt a portion of the assessed value of residential real estate that’s used as a primary residence.”
